I first learned about SapphiraVee from her radio show, where she played an eclectic and brilliant array of music, trying hard, along the way, to support and showcase women and LGBTQ+ in the arts. I listened to her own music and found a complex wash of near orchestral dark grooves that were impressively mature and grounded, with rhythms that were different and powerfully unique.
We began talking and our conversations got progressively longer and longer until it almost seemed like we were never not connecting. We collaborated on a number of remixes for each other and even both worked on the 6 to 3 record by the Joy Thieves. I was taken in by her wide range of musical knowledge and her absolute passion for new music and promoting new younger artists in everything she did. She became someone I trusted very much and then loved her, falling in love with both her and her beautiful family.
Over the last few months, we’ve had the chance to write some playful, fun and sometimes sexy songs under the name “Bailigero” (From “Baile”- dance and “Ligero”- light) and it’s been just as amazing collaborating with her in the studio as it is collaborating with her in real life.
The first Bailigero single- Slutty- is due for release soon. This track “Toy” was the first one we wrote and I love it. It’s the second song on the Pulseblack “We are 20” compilation, available for early release this week for people with a Regen Patreon.
